Delete your account and family data.
For families using Kairoo Parents and Kairoo, on Android or iPhone. You can delete your account and everything Kairoo holds about your family from the parent’s app, there and then, or by email if you no longer have the app. Below: the steps, what happens on your child’s phone, what we delete, and the little we keep.
Delete it in the app
Only the grown-up who set up the family can delete it, from Kairoo Parents. It happens there and then, and it can’t be undone.
Android
Kairoo Parents on Android
- Open Kairoo Parents and tap Family at the bottom of the screen.
- Under Account and privacy, tap Delete account and family data.
- Read what goes, then tap Delete everything.
When it’s done, the app clears itself off your phone and starts again as if it had just been installed. If it can’t finish, for example with no signal, it says so and your phone still shows your family. Part of the record may already be gone by then, so tap Delete again when you’re back online: it picks up where it stopped.
iPhone
Kairoo Parents on iPhone
- Open Kairoo Parents and tap Family.
- Tap Settings & more, then Delete this family and all its data.
- Tap Confirm it’s you (Face ID, your passcode or your parent PIN), then Delete everything.
When it’s done, your phone starts again as if Kairoo had just been installed.
What happens on your child’s phone
Your child’s data goes with the family: you delete it from your phone, not theirs. On the phone itself:
- iPhone. Kairoo is told straight away. It lifts its limits and forgets the deal. If the phone is off or offline, it does this the next time Kairoo runs on it. A very old version of Kairoo can’t do this, so if in doubt, update it first.
- Android. Uninstall Kairoo from your child’s phone as well. Kairoo on Android doesn’t yet switch itself off when you delete: the family is gone from our servers, but the app keeps its own copy of the last deal and goes on counting minutes and showing the wind-down until it is removed. The surest way is the Play Store on your child’s phone: tap your profile picture, then Manage apps and device, then Manage, tick Kairoo and tap the bin. Or press and hold the Kairoo icon on the home screen and tap Uninstall.
Kairoo’s own page in your child’s Settings (App info) stays closed while Kairoo still holds a deal, so uninstalling from there won’t work. If Kairoo’s bedtime or wind-down screen is covering the phone, try again when screens are back, or email us and we’ll help.
Deleting doesn’t remove the apps themselves. Uninstall them from both phones whenever you like; whatever an app still held on a phone goes with it.
No app any more?
There are two ways.
- Get your family back, then delete it. Install Kairoo Parents again and sign in with the same email address, with a code or, on Android, with Continue with Google. Your family comes back, and you can delete it as above.
- Or email us. Write to hello@kairoo.family from the address you signed up with, and ask us to delete your account and family data. We delete the whole family record from our servers within 48 hours, including everything your child’s phone sent, and tell you when it’s done. If your child’s phone is an Android, uninstall Kairoo from it too, as above.
If you signed up with a different address, or never saved one, say so. We’ll work out with you which family is yours before we delete anything, so nobody can delete a family that isn’t theirs.
What is deleted
Straight away, from Kairoo’s servers:
- Your family record. The deal and every earlier version of it, with your child’s first name, date of birth and the name they use for you. Every day’s record: minutes, stops, saved minutes and streaks, the asks and the reasons your child typed, your answers, replies and messages, any photo your child took to show a task was done, and any note that something your child typed to Kairoo sounded worrying.
- What the phones reported. On Android, the list of apps on your child’s phone and the minutes in each. On both, the phone model, the app version, whether Kairoo was switched on, and the tokens that let the two phones send each other notifications.
- How you found Kairoo. The campaign labels on your family record, if there are any. A waiting-list sign-up from our website stops pointing at your family.
- Your sign-in. Your email address, the link between it and your family, any sign-in code still waiting to be used, and the sign-ins of your phone and your child’s phone. If you used Continue with Google, your email address was the only thing we kept from it, and it goes too.
- A record of what you agreed to. Which version of our terms you accepted and the words on the screen, whether you ticked the box for tips and news, when, and which version of the app you used.
- Pairing. The link between the two phones, and any code for linking one.
- Working copies. Copies of your deal we made while upgrading how it is stored.
We also ask our email service, Customer.io, to delete you. It deletes what it holds about you and keeps only your email address, on a do-not-email list.
What we keep, and for how long
- Your email address, on a do-not-email list at Customer.io, so nothing we send can reach you by mistake. That includes sign-in codes: a code can’t be emailed to that address any more. If you want to use Kairoo again with the same address, email us and we’ll take it off the list.
- Your waiting-list sign-up, if you also joined the list or saved an agreement on kairoo.family. Deleting in the app leaves it in place, no longer linked to your family. Email us and we delete it within 30 days.
- Crash reports from the Android apps (Firebase Crashlytics, part of Google): what the app was doing when it crashed, the phone model and the app version, labelled with your family’s ID. Google deletes them after 90 days.
- Our servers’ logs, which can include your family’s ID: up to 30 days.
- Emails between you and us, including a request to delete: two years, as our privacy notice says.
- Another grown-up’s own sign-in. If another grown-up was linked to your family, the link goes, but their own sign-in isn’t deleted with your family. They can ask us to delete it by email.
Keep the account, delete one thing
To have something specific removed and keep using Kairoo, such as a photo or a message, email hello@kairoo.family and tell us which.
